Reading Your Work at Poetry Readings

Many people who write poetry believe they could never muster the courage to read it in public.  If that's true, then maybe they're just not cut out to perform, right?  Wrong.  Reading poetry in public is a skill that improves with practice, like any other.  And the advantage of reading your poetry out loud is that it helps you improve your writing.  Sometimes what seems good on paper doesn't seem that way when you hear how your poem sounds.
